Author Topic: Very low FPS?  (Read 1351 times)

Hey guys, I'm a 20ker, so go ahead, troll me, but I played TBM and RTB before retail came out.

So there's my introduction.

Here's the issue. I'm on an ASUS EEEPC 1201n, which is a 12.1 inch netbook with a dual-core 1.6GHz processor, and NVIDIA ION chip that can run Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, on lowest settings with about 25-40 FPS. It has mb of VRaM. I have another 5 year old laptop that my little sister uses to play with me on LAN, and it's got a single-core 2GHz processor and only 64mb of VRAM. My netbook runs on Win7, and the old laptop on XP.

The issue is this: The old laptop on the server I'm on currently with a few thousand bricks gets about 40-60 FPS with all settings low and a lower resolution, while the newer laptop, which can run much newer games than the old laptop, only gets 7 FPS in those regions. All the settings are on the lowest, and my resolution is 800x600 on a native 1366x768 resolution. What's the deal? I should be getting much better FPS than this, considering I'm on a much newer laptop with better specs? Is it that I'm on Win7? But it shouldn't be THAT huge of a difference, correct?

Thanks in advance, and for reading that wall of text.

I'm sorry for double posting but I forgot to say that the new laptop, the EEEPC, has 883.0 MB of VRAM.

I can help, how much RAM do you have?

Lol wow no edit button. Whatever. Didnt read the post 2 posts above.

Solution: Buy 1 more GB (gigabyte) of ram. You may be above blockland's system requirements, but your computer may not be able to handle it, because it has to toss around a stuffload of data, and you may need more RAM for that.

A RAM stick typically runs for about $35.50 -> $104.78 depending on your computer model.

If that doesn't work, buy a new graphics card. I recommend the latest model of graphics cards in the ATI series.

Another solution: Update your graphics drivers. The better graphics card you have, the faster your computer can render blockland, and the higher your FPS will be.

Thanks for the help but you didn't have to explain all that. I'm competent in computers, and I've built two PC gaming rigs, I just don't have access to them.

And you didn't notice that my new laptop has a MUCH better graphics card then my old laptop, but it is right now 3 fps, while the old laptop is getting 30. And it's a laptop, I can't really change the card out.

I think the issue is RAM, I'm using about 80% of it now. Didn't think about that at the time.

I think the drivers are all up to date but I'll check it now, I'll keep you posted.

Even if all the drivers are up to date, it is also a smart but risky idea to uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers. Its only risky if you're stupid and don't make a backup.

System Requirements:

1. 800mhz cpu
2. 512mb ram
3. 32mb openGL compatible video card

I have Dual Core 1.6GHz each core, 2GB RAM, and 883 MB of VRAM. I think my requirements suffice.

try to play blockland on 640 x 400 on windows mode and tell me if it worket or no

NVIDIA ION. Like I said, I can play newer games like Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Portal, Company of Heroes, on lowest settings at the same resolution and get 25 fps+

Now I noticed that deleting all the weapons off the map put a huge increase of fps, but it still doesn't explain why the 5 year old laptop gets over 30+ fps more than I do, even at the same draw distance and graphics settings.

I'm actually guessing your processor may be a problem. Maybe get a new one, because 1.6Ghz is looow.

Dual Core 1.6GHz*

So it's in essence 3.2GHz.

not ever leptop or netbook can play ever game better buy a real computer whit the newest thing and but better alot of your money in your computer. Oh and did you update you hardware?
