You want to use a full disk eraser if you're selling it. Just Google one because there are millions. It overwrites every part of the hard drive with garbage code (usually all zeros). You don't want to just format when selling your computer as you don't know who will be buying it.
This. If you sell your computer to a computer wiz, he/she can restore files that you thought you deleted.

Because the person who bought it would have to buy a whole new disk, because they don't have anything to put anywhere.
Otis is completely right.Format does not actually delete everything. A well experienced IT person could easily access everything that was previously on the disk.
Maybe if you went to the c:/drive and deleted everything in it.
