Author Topic: How do i create a internet server?  (Read 3388 times)

I am trying to make a TDM server, i had it open for about one hour, and i finally gave up. is there something special i have to do to make a server?

Probably should wait a bit longer (there are lots of them servers out there)

Did you portforward? If not, go to http://www.portforward.com/ and if you don't understand it, get someone like a parent to help.

1. Your server has a very high ping.
2. TDMs are boring.
3. There are lots of servers out there.
It should be one of above.

im pretty new here, what does "Ping" mean?

Ping is a computer network administration utility used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network and to measure the round-trip time for packets sent from the local host to a destination computer, including the local host's own interfaces.
Ping operates by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request packets to the target host and waits for an ICMP response (or a pong). In the process it measures the round-trip time[1] and records any packet loss. The results of the test are printed in form of a statistical summary of the response packets received, including the minimum, maximum, and the mean round-trip times, and sometimes the standard deviation of the mean.
The use of the ping utility is usually described as pinging a host computer. Ping has various options depending on the implementation that enable special operational modes, such as to specify the packet size used as the probe, automatic repeated operation for sending a specified count of probes, time stamping options, or to perform a ping flood. Flood pinging may be abused as a simple form of denial-of-service attack, in which the attacker overwhelms the victim with ICMP echo request packets.

How do i know my Ping is to high? is there like way to know?

You have to ask someone.
Farther the location of the person, higher the ping is.
Don't run programs in background while hosting your server.

I understand, does the number of bricks, or the number of events affect it in anyway?

No.
If the number of event is high up, the ping may vary between 50-200, and that is bad.

so any number under 200 is a good ping number? but how come my server still doesnt come up?

Your a moron, you dont need port fowarding.

does Port fowarding do nothing?

does Port fowarding do nothing?
Yes, if you foward ports, it just dose nothing but open your computer to people.

Port forwarding is perfectally safe.

When attempting to host (with a router) you have to use one of two options.
1) Port forward - This still works no matter what people say.
2) Enable UPnP - Sometimes this is enabled by default, sometimes it isn't.
If you do neither of these, the chances are nobody will be able to connect to your server.

I would suggest asking one of your friends if they can connect to your server before assuming you have done it wrong/it doesn't work.
