also, my family PC is an HP laptop and I hate it :I

it constantly freezes for 10-30 seconds (I'm not even exaggerating)
it has a lot of trouble with the internet
it's slow, but with pretty decent specs
it's broken twice and it's only a year 1/2 old, and both times HP reformatted the HD. If the HD was reformatted like that on my personal Macbook after I sent it in to Apple, I'd kill somebody :I

I don't know if the some of the problems are with Vista or HP, but either way I don't like it.

That would be vista... I have an HP Pavilion here, with win7 on it, never had any problems ever.

Problems with Vista on it? YES. Before I upgraded it was total stuff.

I have a really slow desktop, a faster laptop (E-475M) and a pretty good desktop (DX4831-03), all Gateway.

I used to have an eMachines and two HPs, but that was back in 1998-2004. I'm not sure what I would say if I tried recent HP or other computers, but as it is, Gateway's my favorite.
