Windows 7 Port Forward

I haven't tried to host a server on Windows 7 until now and I'm a little confused. I can do the port forwarding itself but when it comes to changing the TCP / IP settings I'm confused. For example, there isn't just a "TCP / IP Protocol" window, there is a v6 one and a v4 one.

If anyone could give me some advise on this I'd appreciate it.

I did change that because it was similar to the protocol setting windows I've seen in XP, but my server had remained dead

My server ping comes up as "---" and I'm not really sure what that means, but knowing that might help.

Triple post because edit buttons are for squares.

I looked it up and found out that "---" is SUPPOSED to mean that you dont have UPnP enabled, although I DO and people CANNOT join my server.

It ignores port forwarding if you have UPnP on. Turn UPnP off.

I tried this, but now instead of "---" the ping is "???"

Why doesn't anyone ever know the answer to port forwarding problems...

Info to put all of this together:
I'm on Windows 7
I changed the "v4 TCP / IP protocol" to what the tutorial says to change it to
I have forwarded my ports in the 192.168.1.1 page
I have DISABLED UPnP
My server Ping is "---" and unjoinable with UPnP ENABLED
My server Ping is "???" and unjoinable with UPnP DISABLED

What do I do.

Yea, I thought of that as the problem but everything remained unchanged
