Sunday (yesterday), me and 2 friends and my cousin drove to the DTE Energy music theatre to witness a laser/light show to the music of Pink Floyd. It was no concert, but we don't care; the 3rd row seats we got were $10 a pop, and Pink Floyd is just generally mindblowing. So we get there and buy our shirts, then we see they're selling 3D glasses or some stuff for the show.
You can buy some of these glasses at the stands, they're optional but they will definitely ENHANCE the viewing experience; and to those of you who are already "enhanced": you're on your own.
They were only like $2, and after my friend exclaimed "I WANT MY LASERS ENHANCED", we shelled out and got them only to discover they were prism glasses. Basically like 3D glasses, only the paper used isn't a red/blue filter, it's a material that splits light, which can create kaleidoscopic effects and rainbows. The setup was basically 3 big white panels surrounded by steel framework, for the projectors. Anyway, so the show starts up, and we put our glasses on. They played Dark Side of The Moon cover to cover, then did some from The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and probably more that I can't recall. The lasers drew images and shapes and stuff on the panels on the stage and lights violated our eyes through the LSD goggles, while the speakers that were not even 15 feet from us raped our eardrums with the most soothing and amazing music of all time at a billion decibels.
Then stuff got real.
The final song was a song I haven't heard from Pink Floyd, or at least not that I remember (it was really crazy, heavy on distortion guitar and synth, fast beat). In any case, by this time it's pitch black out, so all we can see are the lights on the stage, which get increasingly more chaotic. It's pretty crazy for the average person, but don't forget:
Our lasers were enhanced.I'm sitting back in my seat having my mind forgeted by what I can only describe as the worst acid trip that never happened, and then it was all over. Amazing show, would totally do it again. Story isn't over either.
We're driving home at like midnight, through mostly city/residential areas, and we get the idea to put our glasses on again. stuff hit the fan. There were loving rainbow unicorn horns exploding out of every possible light source and crazy ghostlike projections of street signs. We didn't even do the shrooms and we were tripping balls, windows down, volume on high. Bulletproof by La Roux came on and 4 straight guys sang it at the top of their lungs while wearing 3D prism glasses at midnight driving through Westland. Rainbows man.
So yeah, it wasn't a Pink Floyd concert, but it was still pretty awesome. Awesome night.
