Okay folks, let me give a brief recap of what occurred tonight and what this will be about moving forward.
I wouldn't say that tonight was a clusterforget, but it didn't go as smooth as it could've and I think should. I think there were four main problems that are easily solvable, and, in their solving, will make this a much more fun event for everyone.
- Poor communication
- Nobody knew who was from Blockland
- Server/game issues
- Lack of a "Party" mentality
I will cover each a little more in-depth
Communication IssuesAs Duck said, very few people had mics. Whether this is for lack of dropped balls or a physical mic, it doesn't matter. There were people that were playing that didn't have mics or weren't using them. What's stated in the OP will not be changed; owning a mic isn't going to be a requirement of being in this little gaming circle, however, owning one is preferred and makes the experience more fun for everyone.
Nobody knew who was from BlocklandExcept for a few people, it was unclear who was from Blockland and who was someone that wandered in from the server list. Unless we can completely fill a server and keep it full, we run the risk of because there's a sudden upshot in popularity of the server we were playing on of people seeing a slightly more full server on the server list and joining. The best and most obvious way to solve this is add some kind of identification, whether it be a tag in your name such as [BL], a mark in your avatar, or just changing your username to your BL username. Another less preferable alternative is to RSVP with the username that you use in that game and I'll send out an announcement before we start with the RSVP list and what everyone's going by.
Server/game issuesOf course, another solution to the previous problem would be to get a passworded server. Now, this is next to impossible to when hopping to and fro on other people's servers. I heard that some people can host TF2 servers, but one thing that I'm committed to is hosting a variety of events in a variety of different games. We could always do, perhaps, "TF2 Wednesdays" or something like that if someone could host a passworded dedi. Just a thought.
Lack of a "Party" mentalityA less serious issue, but at the end of the day, the reason I do this is for everyone to have a good time. Just try to have fun and not take yourself too seriously. For example, Duck was a real party pooper tonight. Just kidding duck, but this is an internet party so try to have fun.
I will also appoint officers at some point. Talk to me on Steam if you're interested.
