There are two types of (Official) Paintball games, Speedball, and Scenario.
What is Speedball?Speedball is a fast, quick tournament game. If you get hit ONCE, you are out and you play until your team or the other team is out. There is also a capture the flag variant of the game where you must capture the rag on the other side of the field.
What is Scenario?Scenario is a game that people act as if they were in the special forces, the army, anything that you do not play as in Speedball. These games are really long and you have to be dedicated to finishing the objectives that are given to you before the match. From past experience, I had to stay as an overnight guard to a mini-camp that we had and we were going to charge the next day. Trust me, it is not fun.
I like the sound of Paintball already, where do I start?Well, I would sign up for a league near you and get a Paintball gun! Finding some buddies would be nice just so you know the people on the team. To play a scenario game, I would first talk with your local police and see if you can find a nice spot to play Paintball in, an open field, abandon areas, woods, anywhere the police let you play would be a good place to start.
What kind of a gun would be the best?I would get a full-auto for a beginner, then a semi. That is my opinion but I would also try to experiment with those guns. Don't forget that the pump guns are also really great too.
I got an idea of the kind of gun I am going to get, now which brand?That depends, do you want a good quality gun for a decent price, go with Tippmann! If you just want a really cheap gun to get you started, go to your local sports store and pick one up from there.
Any accessories?I started out with a Spyder belt/pod holder and I have 4 pods. A pod is used for carrying paintballs. Make sure you have a mask and I always run onto the field with a cup, just in case you do not trust the other team. If you are on a team, get a way to tell your team from the rest! A bandanna, uniform, special masks, anything. Just be sure that the other team does not have the same thing.
Don't I need ammo?Buy a few boxes of paintballs and your ready. Just be sure to pick the right size of balls.
