I am going to get a new computer.

But there are a lot of problems. My dad just wants me to use a new iMac with a much better graphics card, but I say it's too expensive, and there aren't many mac-compatible games anyway. He says I can use Bootcamp to emulate Windows, but I want to be able to use both this computer, and the other computer side-by-side, instead of switching to each OS when I need it. He tells me that building a good gaming computer will be as expensive as a new iMac, ($2000) but I am really sure that it can be much, much cheaper. Also, he says he won't help me if I decide to build one.

I'm confused and I don't know what to do. Tell me, what is the price for building a good gaming computer under $1800?

Get a decent motherboard with PCI Express 2.0. A decent video card like a 260GTX maybe or preferably a 460GTX if you want to spend the extra 50 bucks. 3 Gigs of ram is all you really need but make sure to get that gaming ram because that does make like a 10 fps difference. Get at least a dual core processor and that'll turn out to be like 1,200 dollars maybe? Maybe even less.
