The internet is a pretty loving crazy place. There is no disputing that the internet has had a massive impact on almost every facet of our lives, but the only question is, is it a good impact or a bad one?
Both sides could easily be argued. The internet provides a cheap, easy, efficient, fast and reliable way to communicate with, for all intents and purposes, anyone that uses the internet. Sites like Wikipedia provide access to the collective knowledge of the world. The internet benefits so many facets of our lives, including communication, discussion, access to entertainment and information, and commerce. The internet allows small small business, entrepreneurs, merchants and someone just wanting to sell something to have access to a global market.
Obviously the internet has nearly innumerable benefits, but what about some of the negative side effects?
The internet and digital communication in general are directly responsible for social interaction between kids migrating from either face to face conversations or over the phone conversation, to almost exclusive texting, Facebooking, etc. The internet also has crippled our ability to have a past that we can escape. Any information we post to the internet is hard to delete in its entirety, and incriminating information may prevent you from getting a job or any other variety of consequences. When all is said and done, our generation is going to be very very different than our parent's generation or their parent's generation for the simple reason that the social and cultural landscape has been completely different as we grow up. Think about it, in 30-40 years, we're going to have a president that probably grew up saying "lol".
So. All things considered (if that's possible) do you think the world and the people that live in it is a better place because of the internet?
