Author Topic: AlienWare or Custom built?  (Read 1817 times)

Hey Guys, I've recently made a few Computer threads cause I don't want to piss away a few thousand dollars.

I'm just asking this.

Should I go for a 6K High Quality, Max Performance Alienware.

Or try my luck at building a custom quality PC?

Tell me the Pc you have, if it is Alienware, or custom built. Or if you just want to say FUkin WiNdoWs 98!!!1

I have a custom built PC and have had no issues with it. Spent $850 and there are only a handful of games that I can't quite max.

Same here, I'd go for custom.

Also if you have the dough for it, go alienware. Why not. I know a guy that's had his for two years and hasn't had a single issue with it and he can still max most current games no problem. Those things are damn solid machine if you can pay the entrance fee.

I was expecting this answer.

Thanks for the assurance.

If you are going to get an overpriced computer, get a Mac. Better support, and you can install windows.

ffs.

Alienware is not overpriced. You get what you pay for.

By the way, when my friend talked about getting his alienware he said he got information as to exactly who picked and assembled the parts along with how to contact them and he said he's done so twice and they've been incredibly responsive and helpful.

Acknowledging that both are very expensive, you don't get good hardware with a mac. Bad point is bad.

i never spend more then 2500 on a new comp.
it REALLY isn't necessary.

there is a huge difference between being able to play any game fantastically, and being able to crunch numbers for NASA.
there's good, then there is to good.

spending more gives you a comp that will age well.
but spending to much gives you a comp that will age JUST as well... thus a loss in money.

He says the Alienware he wants to gets is 6k. You can get a pretty powerful PowerMac for that. Plus, Apple has customer support that's the best according to a couple of surveys.

The PowerMac in that price range has a single Radeon 5870.

The $6k Alienware has SLI GTX480s.

I imagine the difference to be something like this:

5870

SLI GTX480s.

Well you could configure the computer to have 4 GeForce GT 120s.
It's kinda hard to compare computer prices with how customizable they are :/

Custom built.

/thread
Because everyone wants to risk building there own computer.

Alienware if you have the money and you know nothing about computers.

Which is probably for me. :s
