Author Topic: What is your opinion on the "Ground Zero Mosque"  (Read 2916 times)

Faith is just your own human emotions redefined. Anyone can feel this religious or not. Someone's faith could be their deceased father watching over them and protecting them or something.

I've defined what Faith is to me. And I believe I've made it clear...somewhere (:o), that you don't need religion to have Faith as I define it. A person could have Faith in many things, some place it in a religion, some in God, some in merely what tomorrow brings.

But this really has nothing to do with the Mosque. I'll continue via PM, though, if you desire. :o

Religion is a tool like the internet or like a saw or even like human hands. It cannot do anything unless someone uses it. Unless someone contributes. There will always be poor uses for a tool, just as there will be good. There will always be influences because that tool is there, once again both good and bad.

Some tools were created for negative purposes. A sword's only real purpose is to kill people. A guillotine has the same sole purpose. Religion is the same. It's ALWAYS manipulated to suit the people in power. Every single popular religion in the world today.

The part of religion that isn't a tool is the Faith it instills. Faith is, as I define it, a form of Love. It is the knowing of light, even when in darkness. It is the search for wisdom when all seems lost. It is the desire to continue even when all seems hopeless. Everyone needs Faith within something and most people do, even if they don't realize it.

That's bullstuff and you know it. Sounding poetic doesn't make something true. All faith is is the desire to gain knowledge without caring whether your "knowledge" is true or not. It's the ultimate form of self-delusion and it's a disgrace to all thinking beings.

I'm not saying that the world would be changed for the better or for the worse if religion was dropped.

I am

What I'm saying is that religion is extraordinarily different person to person. Some perceive it as the source of all evil while others find it to be the only thing that keeps them going throughout the day. Some people use it as an excuse to hurt, others use it as a motivation to help. Some insult it, others praise it. Religion, like life, is a very speculative thing.

It happens to be speculative bullstuff, and the only people who rely on it are the people who've been raised around it. If religion was abolished from everyone's minds right now no child would develop this.

It's full of stuff either way.

It's full of stuff either way.
Yeah, because your opinion is fact.
/sarcasm

It's not my opinion. Thinking something without any evidence is bullstuff.

:O
But the fact that they are building something religious at all offends you, no?
Also two blocks away is not very far. Most food places I eat at are two blocks away from my school when I am able to afford it.

I dunno... I guess distance is relative :/

No, religion does not offend me any more than someone saying 2+2=5 offends me. Religious bigots, on the other hand, offend me because of their bigotry. I went to school two blocks from the world trade center, and I wouldn't give half a stuff if there was a mosque.

Religion is fairly old, to say the least. It wasn't originally as it is today, as organized or vast that is. Initially, people explained phenomenons they saw every day as the work of Gods or Goddesses, it was really used as a way to discover that which they were unaware of. As for the popular religions today, I agree that in many cases it can be used as a manipulative tool, but that doesn't mean it always is.

That's how you define it, dear, and that's what you think of it. I define it differently, which is why I explained that. I feel that Faith is what keeps us going, whatever a person may have Faith in.

Well that's a given. If we abolished anything from everyone's minds right now, no child would develop the fundamental ideals it teaches either. That's why religion is a tool. It can be used by whomever desires to and dropped by whomever desires.

Once again, like I said to Solid:

If god's not watching anymore, why be goody-goody?
'Cause Santa is, dur.

Don't call me dear, Magic Mage, it's derogatory.

It sounds to me like you're saying religion is obsolete.

You define it wrong then.

Well that's a given. If we abolished anything from everyone's minds right now, no child would develop the fundamental ideals it teaches either. That's why religion is a tool. It can be used by whomever desires to and dropped by whomever desires.

I thought you just said faith keeps us going. I'm saying who cares.

Once again, like I said to Solid:

I don't care if they build it

just as long as it's not a block away from ground zero it just seems "taunting"

If they did (i'm not saying they will) build it on the site it will probably be burnt down before it could be started on.

This isn't a Ground Zero mosque if the mosque is being built 2 blocks away.
