The "such a thing" would be a stylus. Trying to browse the internet on this is hard, and I thought maybe a stylus would help.

Is there such a thing as a stylus for an iPod/iPhone?

Of course, they sell PDA stylus at places like radioshack or Wal Mart.

I just looked online and saw some going for $2. The multi-touch ones are $8 - $12.

Where would I go to get one not online?

Why don't you just use a DS stylus or just a pencil?

The touch function is activated by the small amount of electricity in your finger, so plastic or wood wouldn't work.
