Author Topic: Going on vacation, Have a question about my PS3  (Read 1936 times)

Yes. im going on vacation, buisness trip with my dad. Since there is no buisness I can do, I thought i'd bring the PS3.

I dont know what TV's they have there, so I will just bring the cables

I have my PS3 set to HDMI 1080p, so If i were to just bring the cables, connect it, would the PS3 auto-configure itself to fit the TV?

Thanks for the help

If it's in a different country you'll need a different power plug I think

Yes, it always does that. I think you can also hook it up to your computer. I haven't tried though.

Do I need any extentions to hook it up to my PC?

@Flamecannon Its the same power plug.

I don't know, I've only seen a video where the system is hooked up to a PC.

All you do is hook up your computer monitor and it acts like a TV. Heck if you have a cable box you can use your monitor as a TV.

Doesn't work on laptops though, at least I don't think it does.

Could you give more info? I wanted to do this before.

First off, it depends what kind of monitor you have. If it's VGA, you're out of luck.

He's right in the sense that you can technically hook up your cable box to your monitor assuming your monitor and cable box both have HDMI ports.

Most cable boxes use HDMI and/or composite cables for high definition, and brown townog standard definition (Yellow/red/white cables) for non-high def.
Most old monitors will have only VGA. Most monitors have VGA, DVI or both. New monitors usually have HDMI, which are becoming more frequent for displaying graphics since most high end cards now have mini-HDMI output.

If you have an HDMI monitor and your cable box has an HDMI output, and you have the cable line in your room, then yes theoretically you can watch TV on your monitor.

It's more or less useful if you have a monitor that has both DVI and HDMI, so that you can have your PC on DVI and whatever else, console/cable box etc., on HDMI.

It's also better if you're monitor has like 1920x1080 or something like that so it isn't fuzzy and stuff for the PS3.

Don't consoles adjust the resolution to conform to the best for the monitor? Can't they just technically switch resolutions as a PC can do?

You can change the resolutions yeah, and it auto adjusts, but it just looks a lot better in 1080p.

It may not if connected by HDMI, just hold the power button down for a while to fix that.

Well obviously, nothing beats 1080p especially playing it on a huge TV.
I'd imagine it would be hard to adjust from playing on a 1080p TV to something like a 360p standard definition TV

Standard definition is 480.
