My mom's boyfriend was in Iraq for a while and he killed a few people. He said that the only way he and his buddies could keep from going insane or breaking down was to joke and laugh about it. Maybe these guys are like I would have been and just got a kick out of it, but it's very possible that they're having to be light hearted about it to preserve themselves. I think this just about sums it all up, I mean this sort of thing has (probably) always been there in war, but with the media like it is today and with sites like wikileaks it's much more in the public eye.
