The virus database has been updated.

Uninstall everything and use Microsoft Security Essentials. I've used a bunch of security products over the years and this is what I've been doing with every single new installation of Windows I've had to do now.

is it better than most mainstream antiviruses? I could use a new one myself ...

It's free and every report I've read about it so far suggests it's just as good as most other anti virus software. The big perk you get is that it doesn't come with the tons of extra bullstuff every other bloated piece of virus software comes with. It's a simple, very easy to use program. There's no paid subscription version and you don't have to renew it every year.

Use "Ad-Aware", it's the best free anti-virus. Also get "Malware-Bytes" for extra things.

I use this + Symantec Endpoint Protection

dunno if Symantec whatever is any good but it works for me so far
