Author Topic: Need some reccomendations for computer part upgrades.  (Read 876 times)

I'm looking to upgrade my computer so it could be good/decent at running games. I don't really know what game to make as an example but anyway, I need to upgrade...
  • CPU
  • Graphics Card
  • Motherboard
  • Memory
  • And must be under 500$-600$

Building list.

You'll also need a new power supply assuming your old one is <500 watts.

Done.
I added in a PSU because chances are your current PSU is old and won't be able to power this new computer.

That's actually a good cheap computer. I think the motherboard is MEH but it's a really good computer for the cost.

For the price of a mac, its at least 10x better.

What is (roughly) the best game it could run at medium/high settings?

Based on the CPU, Graphics, and RAM, Crysis.

This build can run most games on high such as Red Alert 3/SAGE engine games, MW2, etc.

Some high end games like Crysis may still be a little hard to run on very high, GTA4 might need to be on medium-high.

Are those parts going to last me longer than four years?

I guess so, yes.

I've been in my computer so many times this year, I think I'm actually starting to figure out what all of these mean and how they would be installed.

Computers rule.

I'm actually running a comparable setup to General's suggestion.  Works pretty well, except I have a Q8200, which runs at 2.33 ghz stock.  It still runs very well.

A great graphics card is the gefource 9800gt
