Well I was working on a DooM II mod called Hollow City and since I didn't meet the deadline requirements I had to give my engine to another programming team. What I did though was give them an outdated version of the engine and I'm using the latest engine for my latest mod Die Alone. I mean those guys were richards so is what I did justified? Also don't ask how I got in the situation of giving my game engine away.

P.S. They don't know about this yet but once I release my latest DooM II mod I'm going to be getting lots of angry emails from them.

I'll say it quite was. :3  :cookieMonster: is proud!

you hardly gave us any information that we'd need to answer the question.

Well basicly the deal was they'd give me sprites and I'd finish the mod by a certain deadline. They kept pressuring me and they actually cut back a month on my deadline so I had even less time. So I ran out of time and I had to give my engine away.

Seems kind of immature, I wouldnt say it was totally wrong or that you should feel guilty, but there could have been better ways to deal with it

Yeah I guess you're right. I did do another thing though to piss them off. I made a typo in the main code on purpose to forget the game up so it wouldn't run. All they have to do is delete one letter in the code but it'll be a few days til they figure out the issue.

For a 1 month cutback on the deadline? Yes I think its justified.

well, why did you have to give away the engine?

also, if they cut back your deadline by a month shorter than they originally said, forget em. you shouldn't have to fall through with your part if they're going to change the rules on you.

Like I said. I gave them a really EARLY version of the engine. Most of the code is crippled and barely runs.

Well I would agree with you, but did he talk to the people about them cutting back on his time and why, maybe even show them your progress and ask for more time? Theres a huge lack of information to make a clear conclusion, also the fact that he could be putting some biased into this as well.

Well I was getting lazy and not making a lot of progress but at least I was getting it done. I didn't bother asking for more time so I guess it's part of my fault even if I really doubt they woulda've gave me more time.

I think karma just showed up. I was working on a script for a TMP and now my game won't run. I'm looking for a typo and I have yet to find it. Then again this happened with pretty much every weapon I programmed. I am a very sloppy coder. D:

Yeah, to be honest I think it was your fault and it wasnt really justified. But then again what you did wasnt that bad, just unnecessary. You should email them the updated code, say you sent the wrong one, I think that would be the right thing to do even if you would lie to save your skin. If you hold grudges like that, not only will they miss out, but the people who might have enjoyed your mod will.

Thats just my 2 cents, do what you want man.

You posted this topic, so one can assume you feel uncomfortable about what you did, since you are only really trying to seek ethical approval from others with the OP.

As long as the people in question don't mind, it doesn't matter. But it might be good to tell them, even if you do it half heartedly. "I accidentally sent you the old one".

I guess. I sent them an email about the typo in the code. I still don't want to give them my latest engine. It's like my baby. Also I guess it had something to do with me being a control freak. I kept sending them examples of my progress and they kept sending it back telling me to change something for the most stupid reasons. I had to spend half an hour changing one line of code to make the pistol do one more point of damage to please them.
