Isn't Torquescript very similar to C#..?

Not really. I've used both languages and they're not related at all. I would compare Torque more towards lua.

If you cannot understand it after reading a whole book and taking multiple tutorials, Then I think you just aren't meant to be a modeller.

If you haven't tried the Blender 3D: Noob to Pro book, I'd suggest reading it here.
I personally have found Blender to be a pain with the interface and overall controls, so I don't use it.

I myself have used Milkshape 3D and found it to be the most easy to use.
I have also recently picked up Wings3D and have loved it just as much. It is a free program that has more advanced features then Milkshape, but not the headache of Blender (at least for me).
