Well including online interactions, almost all games are rated M, but Blockland by itself is E.

Blockland, I'd believe is rated T.

It'd be rated E (or E 10+), as ESRB would only rate the offline play with no Add-ons,
Note, on the back of most (online) game boxes, under the rating, are the words "Game Experience May Change During Online Play".

From my experience playing Blockland, most people say some kid-inappropriate things, but the game itself is just fine for children.  I know a kid (Musicfreak) who is 12 and plays it all the time.

Are there any REAL reasons why this is not a kid's game? It's a friggin sandbox!

It is a kids' game, in my opinion. Online, not so much, but the game itself can be fun for anyone.
