While I agree it's overused, I find it fun, I've been practicing other styles to replace the one I currently have, none are really that fun to do however. I've been practicing proper proportioning but whenever I get it right, I try to re do it and it fails. I think the proportions are correct in New Joshua though.
Thanks.
Usually, when the style is easy to use, it's generally not a good art form, and shows that you may not have the ability to cope with artwork that isn't entirely formed from unrealistic based proportioning. That's in referral to the fact that most of the artwork produced with this style isn't consistent, based around how lanky and ambiguous the style is initially. Ultimately, this is one of the most simplistic styles available. Also, some of the proportioning looks good, yes, but in general, some things aren't working properly due to the lack of perspective.
Suggestion: draw yourself away from the style right away, regardless of how difficult it may be. Adapting to new mediums is how you become a true artist.
This is the same thing that's a recurring issue with Tom Gunn artwork, and, like him, you're taking this in a format that isn't "oh you're offending me I'm right you're wrong" etc. Which is, obviously, a good thing.
