How do I make the background to my Avatar Transparent?

What program are you using? In paint.net, select the white background with the wand tool and press 'delete'

Transparent images for the web must be in either GIF or PNG formats. I think SMF (the forums platform used here) only supports transparent avatars in the GIF format.

When I uploaded a PNG with transparency as my avatar, it was converted to a JPEG with a black background.

My old avatar wasn't GIF, but it was still trans.

Any image over 75x75 pixels uploaded as an avatar is converted to a JPG as it's resized. JPGs don't support transparency or animation, thus the image loses those properties if it had them.

PNG and GIF images support transparency.

GIF images support animation.
