Avatar Background Transparency: Questions

For some reason, I cannot get my Blockland Forum avatar's background to become transparent. I have tried uploading my picture as a GIF and PNG, yet both don't work. I am sure I have saved my avatar with transparency, because when I view it on my desktop and in Windows Photo Gallery, it appears transparent. However, when I uploaded it to the Forums, the background changes to an ugly black (Unlike most of the avatars I find around in the forums.) If I keep the background, it stays there. I also used Paint.NET to change the background transparent. Could you guys suggest a problem, or, if you notice anything incorrect, tell me?

You could always set the background colour of the image to the colour of the forums.

It is most likely too large, images loose transparency when resized here.

That is correct, but if I want to keep it the same color, I would have to create a post that is on an even or odd number, and not both.
