...Is loving scary.
It's caused by a gland at the base of your brain that pumps a fluid through your body that virtually stops your muscles from moving while in REM sleep, so you cannot act out your dreams. Only problem is, it's a bit temperamental for some people.
Basically, what happens is you wake up and you cannot move due to the fluid flowing through your body. You are, essentially, half-awake, and half-dreaming. It also triggers the brain's
amygdala in an unnatural way, causing you to feel intense fear. Terrifying, phantasmal half-dreams appear around you, seeming to exist in the foggy, out-of-focus real world you also see. A rushing sound fills your ears, and you struggle to move your limbs, but you can't. Finally, the hallucinations dissipate, your dark bedroom comes back into focus, and you once again have full control of your limbs. These nightmares often last from several seconds to several minutes.
They happen to me every time I have a hard time going to sleep. They're loving scary.
Ten minutes of your precious time, you impatient bastards?Has this happened to any of you?
