Our teacher told use an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) will come from the sun. More explenation here:

Your teach needs to go die in a hole.

thats why i wear a foil hat i made

You're a wee bit late, friend. Our magneto field could go wild at any minute if the sun gave off a large enough flare. That doesn't mean we're all going to die. :o

My World History teacher talked a little bit about theoretical physics to us. I forget why though, something about Steven Hawking's latest book and what we learning though.

Also I highly doubt anything serious will happen. There's no way we will have a worldwide EMP.

Once again, I'm surprised someone still hasn't made a thread about this. :o

Was it Mrs. Rodriguez?

Mrs. Hoskins.

Still, I'm taking in serious alternate to endings and all that fancy crap. This is the most serious I have EVER been.

Even if the sun gives off a large enough flare, I'm pretty sure it has to be pointing towards us to have any global EMP effect.
Also you can EMP shield your electronics. No doubt a lot of government stuff is protected from that sort of thing.

Because most people probably would agree with him.

Tom

We still have time to cover all of our electrical transformers with those cages that can block EMPs. Maybe we should do that instead of spending $50 billion on railways and highways.

The idea that a solar flare may damage our harness on electricity has existed for years. If it were to happen, yes, we would be in a bit of trouble.  If our magnetic field is messed up, then Earth would be difficult to live on, seeing as we've grown so dependent on many electronics. Most rural areas particularly.

On a bright side, the Amish would survive. C:

Exactly. That's what I don't get. Typically people jump at the chance to say a significant figure thinks the universe could have come about without a God. :o
