Author Topic: Flat Shading in MS3D  (Read 661 times)

I give up. No matter what guide I follow on the forums it always fails.

I've been doing these steps to flat shade my model:

1. Select all faces
2. Unweld
3. Uncheck Auto Smooth
4. Tile Texture Mapper (Tried Planar and Cubic default settings)
5. Weld Together
6. Export Torque DTS Plus with LOD 0

I've tried every method I found on these forums. Some wanted me to assign smoothing groups
and other required me to do the same 12 steps over but in the end when I spawn my model, despite
my efforts, it remains smooth shaded.

Help?

After making a new model I realize that the issue isn't with the steps but with the modeling process. Just make sure you're Auto Smooth option is checked during the entire process of your model otherwise you'll run into this problem.

same problem here, I think they are outdated, they need update or new topic.

I've always done it like this:

1. Select all faces
2. Unweld
3. Uncheck Auto Smooth
4. Weld Together
5. Tile Texture Mapper (Tried Planar and Cubic default settings)
6. Export Torque DTS Plus with LOD 100

Weld Together before Tile Texture Mapper.
Which is how Trader's Flat-Shading tutorial was done.

I've tried his tutorial as well. The problem was the model started out with Auto Smooth unchecked. Then when I extruded and I saw the black faces I checked Auto Smooth and continued my model. MilkShape is a little wonky and that is what messed up the flat shading in the end product.
The method I use in the OP works as well so I'm not sure what the difference between the two could be.

MilkShape forgeted up my model already, I have re-do model on Shaper software all over again, Trader's topic is outdated: August 20, 2007. It need updated today year 2010.

Edit: look at my topic.
