Author Topic: Milkshape Or Blender  (Read 4403 times)

Ive been using blender for a long time, And i think I have asked this question before. I am wondering which is better Milkshape or Blender. Ive been told milkshape is easier, but blender you can do more once you get the hang of it. Whats your opinion? Why?

I find Milkshape to be sufficient for producing the simple models usually found in BL.

What makes it sufficient?

I know your opinion, Because your the one that told me that it was a "wid ride" once you get the hang of it

What makes it sufficient?

It has all of the basic tools and functions necessary to make simple models. More advanced modeling suites like Blender have those simple tools, but they also come with a whole range of extra functions to simplify and enhance more detailed models. Most aren't necessary for making the low-poly flat-shaded models that are found in BL.

I prefer the simplicity of MS3D, but I understand the need for a more advanced tool set as found in Blender.

I get what your saying. I might aswell try out Milkshape for a few days..

Blender 3D of corse it rocks!

Use which ever one is easier to you.

MilkShape is a low poly modeling program which is ideal for Blockland. If you are looking to make very complex models relatively easily then maybe Blender is for you. Personally I try to stick with only MilkShape and nothing else.

Thanks, THis has been helpful

Milkshape is good for simple things like swords and guns but if you want more complex things like playertypes, tanks, and such, use blender.

Do they both run the same? Like if i get really used to Blender will i be able to use Milkshape or is it a completely different layout?

Edit: Nvm, I tried Milkshape, and i cant even figure out how to extrude..
Edit Edit: Loser Hero, I don't Understand what you mean by Poly. Ive seen people say this before but what is it?

MilkShape and Blender are very different from eachother and consequently one cannot transfer knowledge of Blender to Milkshape.

To extrude in milk shape using a cube as an example: select Faces and check ignore back faces. Hold shift and on one of your view windows select those faces. Click extrude and click and drag in the correct direction.
"Poly" is just a short hand term for Polygon or Faces. A Face can be made up of 3 vertices.

I don't see a point in learning a more basic program if you already know a program that will allow you do to a lot more than Blockland models.
