Author Topic: Milkshape Or Blender  (Read 4407 times)

Everyone has their opinions. Everyone has their reasons.

I prefer milkshape. I tried Blender, and I agree with heed. Milkshape is better for guns, ect. But if you're really good at blender, then it can be better for things like vehicles.

Blender is:

More powerful than milkshape
More straightforward than milkshape
More user-friendly
Capable of making far better models than milkshape
More cost-effective than milkshape

Some actual specifics:

Blender adds shading automatically
Blender's exporter is more stable and organized
Blender can use 4 verticies for faces instead of just 3 (easy way to reduce polycounts)
Blender has an amazingly powerful animating system comparable to that of 3D Studio and Maya
Blender's UI is a lot easier to understand than milkshapes; I tried milkshape and I couldnt figure anything out without a tutorial, and with blender I was actually able to make part of my model without a tutorial.

Which is why I use it. Oh, and there's an epicly perfect sticky'd tutorial for it at the top of General Modification Help which explains litterally EVERYTHING you'll need to do to get models in game.

Blender rocks.

What's funny is you don't even know what Milkshape does. Blender is on 3 vertices, while Milkshape is on four. Atleast, from what I heard. Only the beta allows a cool interface that is easier to control, but even then, it's hard to learn. Milkshape has a simple interface. I do believe some people said the Blender exporter is a bit buggy, but I'm not sure on that.

Blender uses 4 vertices, NOT milkshape.

I think belnder was easier to learn myself. I could actually do stuff on blender. I made my first model without knowing anything or seeing a tutorial.

(One word)
Blender!
I choose that because it is free and it auto smooths, also texturing is easy and the animations.

Also if you develop more interest in modeling and want to move on to more complex stuff, you won't have to learn another program if you start with Blender.

What, milkshakes?
I could go for a milkshake.

So you couldn't figure out "Box"?

MS3D if you don't want to learn a program and get the hang of modeling

Blender is for when you're more advanced though with better tools if you want you can still learn it and start on Blender instead of MS3D.

I still use MS3D because that Blender tutorial I saw was over 20 parts, Milkshape I just picked up easily because simply because I knew the button "box" makes a box, vertex makes a vertex, ect.

I personally have used a combination of Wings 3D and Milkshape 3D.
I have tried to learn Blender a few times, but never could. I may try the new beta interface, but Wings 3D makes me perfectly happy for modeling. I mostly use Milkshape 3D for textures, joints, and animation these days.

Now I use Wings and milkshape aswell :D

Imho both blow hard, 3DS MAX is a real modelling program. Though I do own MS3D and have for couple of years now.

3DS Max is also EXPENSIVE
