Author Topic: We are extraordinarily lucky.  (Read 5090 times)

I would use the word "blessed" but seeing as how not all of us are religious...

Think about it. There are people in this world (the majority of people in this world) that live in poverty. So much poverty that it makes American poverty look like royalty. Poverty like "there is literally nothing to eat". The very fact that you are reading this right now is proof that you're extremely lucky to be born into such wealth that you don't have to cope what for most people on this earth is the daily struggle of staying alive.

So chin up if you're feeling down.

my girlfriend dumped me my life is terrible im gonna kill myself

I agree. Americans take their life of luxury for granted.

Maybe I should eat more if what you say is true!

I didn't get dinner last night, I'm gonna kill myself, im so poor, I only have a PS3, XBox, and XB live, a WOW subscription, a Wii, a subscription to 5 different magazines, a bike, a motor scooter and my own TV and Highest performance PC...

I agree. Americans take their life of luxury for granted.
Thanks.

Americans take their life of luxury for granted.

I think most people realize they're lucky, just not HOW lucky they are.

For some reason this "think how lucky you are compared to third-world countries" stuff never makes me happy or appreciate anything

keonesan, Japan has it pretty good too.

Quite true, Sirrus. Quite true. c:

Maybe it's because you see it as saying we should be grateful that we aren't unfortunate like others. Honestly, we should be grateful for the fact we have anything in the first place, not because we have more than someone else. :o

It's because you are aware that things could be a lot better than they are currently.

I think it's because my mindset is "well yeah, things could be worse, but they're not" or because I was born where I was born and lived how I lived and don't know anything else

It's like when old people say "you kids would never last in my day without your crazy knick-knacks", to which my response is always "Likely not, because that was the lifestyle you were used to, and today's lifestyle is what we're used to"

I think everyday how lucky I am, the fact that people in my school are like "lul skul sukcs, i hat it." makes me angry, the fact that we are able to get an eductaion is worth going after, even if we have to put up with some teachers you don't like. The fact that I have the luxury of a dog if enough to make me marvel. I guess my point is, a lot of people think that their life sucks because somthing they are focusing on isn't going fantasticaly, does not mean your life sucks. And Regulith, comparing to whatever living condition you're in is a hell of a lot better than any other 3rd world country. And you should be grateful, for whatever small posession, small amount of money, or happyness for that matter that you have ever owned and all you ever will own.
