Author Topic: Improving quality of Keyboard recording onto my computer?  (Read 785 times)

So today I tried to hook up my Keyboard to my computer because I really wanted to record some of my songs and do some editing one them. So I use a 1/4" jack to one of the smaller jacks (The ones you get on headphones) and plug the Keyboard directly into my sound card. (The little pink circle at the back of my computer)

I press the keys and the sound comes out crystal clear and i'm amazed at the quality. So I record a bit in Audacity and to my surprise when I play it back it sounds horrible. The bad quality almost makes it sound like an electric guitar with really high distortion and I was using a Piano sound.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Use MIDI.

I don#t like MIDI it doesn't work with Audacity and I don't have Cubase or Reason. I want to record the actuall sounds of my keyboard not the MIDI output.

When recording in audacity does the mic level go over the limit, if so maby turn the piano down and record?

Thats makes no sense, and the reason it sounds like stuff is because its not midi. Also how do you plan to edit it

The volumes were going over the meters. Gambsy was right. Thanks, the recording is crystal clear now. :)
