Author Topic: Good, advanced computer drawing program?  (Read 1212 times)

Hello, forums! I'm wondering if there's a program out there that has advanced features (fading brushes, color jitter, rotation handles, burn/dodge), a simple window (not the clusterforget of theGimp) and doesn't cost too much (maybe photoshop elements, but free would be best).

So we've ruled out Paint.Net and TheGimp. I'm running W7, so no mac exclusive programs, okay? Thanks in advance, I guess.

This is contradictory.

This is contradictory.

so I guess it's either Gimp or .Net, huh :\

Not necessarily, there are other less-known programs out there (the names of which I've forgotten, of course), but in my opinion Gimp is the best. It's basically free photoshop.

Actually, I think that InkScape is a lot better than GIMP, simply because it's a free software vector graphics program. Very nice, too.

I've never really had a significant problem with bitmap graphics, to be honest.

I'm looking for a raster editor, not a vector editor.

I haven't either...until I've started finding the need to resize them.
Then, in order to make them look all nice, you have to re-draw over them and all that, it's a huge problem for me.
That's why I've started to turn to vector-based graphics.

Go for GIMP then.

In this case you're out of luck for free stuff, except for GIMP. However, Adobe does offer massive student discounts on their products, if you qualify. You're able to get the really expensive Photoshop for much less. Check out Adobe's site for more information on student pricing.

What the hell is wrong with GIMP?

Apparently it's "too cluttered"
