Author Topic: My Working TV  (Read 6451 times)

I have made a working TV out of bricks. It reads VHS style bricks to play simple short animations. Now, I shall give credit where credit is due. Thanks to IcyGamma for the idea, Trueno for the colorset I used, and Badspot for making Blockland, which I used to make this TV.
I have some screenshots now.

A VHS tape. The bottom part stores pixel information and the top part stores the animation itself.

The tape player. You duplicate the tapes inside to read them. Green starts the video and red stops it.

A screenshot of the default animation. The animation is of a guy waving. You can see the tape in the player.
This build was made 100% by me. I am not going to post a save because I fear it may fall into the wrong hands.

Nice work!
Would have been cooler if you had improved this idea, rather than just remake it though.

I'm working on adding music and interactive videos.

Oh, no speakers? :o
Interactivity would be nice. I originally tried to make a Blockland computer that let you load software, but getting it interactive is very hard. Are you gonna try and make it have a clickable screen, because I wonder if thats even possible. I'm keen to see how you do it though!

Good luck!

Thanks! It's all made with default events, though.

Good, thats just what I like to encourage. Interactivity is still doable with default events. I don't publish any builds that use 3rd party events anymore (although I might be publishing a VCE build soon).

Sheath are you keeping this thread open in another tab 0_o
Ontopic: I don't know if interactivity is  possible in the sense that I'd want it to be, but in some sense it might be, like toggling certain events if a certain tape is in.

No offence Icy Gamma but this guys video player is better

Well, its a good build, but I don't believe its better than mine:
- The events are less complex, for example it uses two buttons to turn on and off
- It looks less appealing, its basically just the same TV without transparent ability and a slightly bulkier video tape player
Also, it essentially uses the same system I have, minus the ability to play music. Aside from that, we can't even use it yet, so its too early to judge. What I'm hoping is that rock can improve on the tape itself, and maybe make it smaller.

Using the system I have now, the tape has to be two bricks on top of one another because the bottom brick sends a relay to the top to trigger the animation. I can do two 1x1 flats, but it won't look as good.

Video of it in action becuse frankly we can make live (blockland) T.V with camara events a Nice news station build and some hand made camaras. and Also people willing to act.

This plays simple brick animations. It does not use cameras of any sort. The bricks are the screen.
Edit: Sheath I can make the start/stop one brick, but for the sake of easily modifying my machine, I made it two.
Double edit: I  am also working on making pictures that you can display like a slideshow.

Shameless double post (because the last post has been edited so much)
The only necessary parts of the video player are the buttons and the 2x2 flat black brick. I just made it look better, though a bit bulkier. I tried to use default things in this build, the only non default thing is trueno's colorset. This build would work without it, but you'd have to rework the colors. Also, bump.

Make a screen with Hundreds of bricks

You took the save from Sheath's, I believe, edited it, and said:
This build was made 100% by me.
I am ashamed.
You just changed the tape, the controller,
and the video player. Barely changing anything.
I do believe this was stolen and edited.
This build was not made 100% by you.
Edit: Oh yeah, you also added a baseplate.
