Author Topic: Blockland For Schools?  (Read 7125 times)

This sounds like a good idea, but with the forums in here, just like in spock's story, "blockland had a virus."

Other than that, the funny thing is, my school is using blender.

I'm gonna try to make a letter to write to the prinicpal of my school about this. It needs to be good, so he can say Yes.

Blockland is not an educational program, the fact that you learned more about computers is completely chance, you could spend your entire time on blockland and not learn anything about computers or how to be more "socail"

Yeah I learned a lot about computers from Blockland, but I learned a stuffload from the forums. Those of you who are old enough to remember what I was like when I first joined should understand, but for those who werent:

I was never really like that.

He is going to say no.

I hate it when people try to make excuses to play games at school, just play them at home

This isnt an excuse. He just is trying too hard to get something that is probably not going to happen. Just play it at home, school is for work and learning.

The only time I ever get to play games at school is at the end of triple Geography on Fridays when all the I.T work third period takes 30 minutes to complete leaving 30 minutes to do whatever we want...
I've just got Blockland demo version on a flash drive :-) Shame the forums are blocked...

I think the money would be better spent on English classes.

A few days ago, I was really thinking about getting my school to use Blockland. I'd say that I actually Learned a lot about computers by playing Blockland. for example, when you have to open folders to get the add-ons in, I never knew that! I learned how by Playing Blockland! You could also learn how to be better socail-wize. (blockland Is very socail.) And most of all, you could have fun with your classmates. Plus, you learn to build. AND, The school could use one ID. So Everyone would use the same ID.
Post anything else that you might learn form Blockland.
No, that would mean that schools would have to let 1st graders on, and more 1st graders there are, the more idiots the admins of EVERY server have to ban..

When I stared using Scratch at school, I was miles ahead of my class due to Blockland's Eventing system.

Most likely not, they'd probably use a locally hosted server. Online servers would require permission slips. Many servers also would not have the capacity for 20 students. Furthermore the school staff would want admin accounts.

Blockland would probably need a few modifications for this sort of setting. I imagine you would want a server based chat filter and the word list would need to be more robust. User accounts should probably be tied to a particular computer, so that if someone does something bad they know computer 6 did it and they can take appropriate action. You would need the ability to turn on and off certain client options, possibly even just lock people out of the join internet server or option menus. Player chat should be logged as well.
