Author Topic: Google Developing a Self-Driving Car – And It Works  (Read 3159 times)

Now we wont have 16 year olds constantly crashing their moms cars

That's all well and good for getting you places. But I could see accident avoidance being a problem. You can't program the defensive instinct of a human into a computer driver.

Yes you could, it would just be hard.

But what if all the cars are self-driving? The only thing you have left is crap falling on the road which would be usually unavoidable.

LIke on IRobot.

All the cars were going 300 MPH but they were self driving so no crashes.

Like trams.

Yes you could, it would just be hard.
Yes that was what I meant to say.

That would be safer, but I'm sure that would never happen. Driving is a preference and even if their was a huge amount of self driving cars I'm sure a large amount of people would still prefer to drive on their own. Whether it be they can't afford the newer cars, their car is classic and they want to keep it that way, they think technology is evil, or they just like to drive, making all cars this way and having everyone drive one would be a monumental task.

loving google is taking over the world.

They'll become self-aware. They'll drive all around the United States, running over and killing thousands of people.

It should be a horror movie :D

It already is.

Self driving cars are not new, but developing them to this scale probably is. Following bisjac's idea, it'd be cool if you could tell your car to come pick you up from a friend's house, lol.

Actually yea, a family could use one car, and arrange their schedule so the car picks kids up from school, transports parents to work and etc.

Old, this kind of stuff has existed for 3+ years now.
Yeah, some TV show made a self driving car deliver pizza like, a year ago.

This is stupid. Eventually, if something happens to your self driving car, how you gonna drive manually? "Haven't driven a manual car in 5 years...". "Lets see how this goe-- *CRASH*"

I agree with Destroyer, driving a car is too much fun. Also, mistakes happen all the time in auto-programmed systems. If one car screws up, the whole road could be destroyed because that car doesn't have that instinct that Destroyer was talking about to avoid collision. Still a cool technological feat.

Destroyer drives an Abrams, so no worry for him.

Did you even read the article? It says you can manually drive.

Why the hell is google making cars?
