It's a specific name. You're right, it is "Samus" but it isn't. It's the SA-X(Samus Aran-X), which was formed from the X Parasite.

True, but you have to regain powerups through out the game, and near the end the Fusion Suit looks almost like the Varia/Power Suit. If it were the Gravity Suit, then the shoulders and most of the legs and arms would be purple. So it's the SA-X. But other than that, you guys are correct.
And no, I've never played the game. But I plan on saving up $10 to go buy it shortly.
