One question:

Why would an entire city sink?
it was too heavy

Bringing religion into this- When people started to build the Tower of Babel, they thought they could reach heaven. God got mad at them and spread the people making it all over the world. He also changed their native languages, so they could not possibly build another Tower of Babel. Thus Native Americans in North America before the Europeans came and conquered them.
I went to the top of that 2 years ago. c:

A lot of information points to the story of Atlantis to be based off of the Minoan civilization  -a somewhat advanced one at the time- particularly on the city of Akrotiri that had been destroyed by what people have deduced to be a combination of a destructive volcanic eruption followed by powerful waters caused by the tremors of the disaster. Evidence shows that the Minoans did not panic but had very organized and thought-out evacuations. Some information, if I remember correctly, implies that the Greeks finished them off.
Not stating that this is a fact, but a highly supported idea.

What makes you so sure Plato knew exactly where it was?
Moreover, another question, was Plato's story intended to be of exact historical recordings?

Dinosaurs didn't exist

Dinosaurs didn't exist

Well, 'duh'. Earth is obviously only as old as recorded human history. Next thing you'll be suggesting is that the earth is round and doesn't exist on the back of a giant turtle!

It's turtles all the way down
