Jailbreaking iPods

Hi, Im just wondering, is it against the law to jailbreak iPods? If not, is it illegal to jailbreak them for money?

I've gotten the whole jailbreaking thing down, and now that I've done like 5 with no problem, my friends think I should start charging people for it. I told them to not spread the word yet because I'm not sure if it's legal, so hopefully you guys can help me before I continue, thanks!

Under fair use law, it's legal to jailbreak any iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

Might not be if you're charging for it, though, not sure.

Jailbreaking an iPod Touch is not illegal, but Apple advises against it. What you do with it is a different story. If you start downloading paid apps for free, thats illegal obviously.

By default, it can't be used for pirating software. If he jailbreaks it and doesn't do anything else, it's legal under fair use. If he jailbreaks it and adds repositories that allows for pirating applications, then it becomes illegal.

Plus, using a jailbreaking program that doesn't allow for commercial (for-profit) use is also illegal, but there are some that do allow it, I believe.

It's not illegal.

If jailbreaking another person's iPod for money was illegal, then doing body work on another person's car for money would be illegal. It's the same thing.

It's only illegal if the creators of the Jailbreaking software/hardware said something about it being illegal.
For example, installing homebrew on other people's Wii's for money is illegal, because they clearly gave a 30 second message before installing it, saying: "If you paid for this software, YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED, and you have the rights to ask your money back immediently."

Apple said it's fine if you want to jailbreak, just they advise not to. So, jailbreaking is not illegal.
