Author Topic: JAW959's Computer Building Thread of Extreme cigaretteotry.  (Read 1076 times)

So I finally have some money coming in which means I can build me a new machine. I'm sad to say that in the coming weeks/months you all will probably be seeing lots of "Ogm compooter blewwwy" threads from me, I apologize in advance.

So I was poking around on Newegg (not loving with ebay) and I found a mess of parts, I could use recommendations on almost everything if you have an opinion, as it stands here's what I have.

Case & Power Supply:
Processor
Hard Drive
stuffty Keyboard & Mouse:
RAM
Motherboard

Bear in mind that I'm on somewhat of a budget.
Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions!

What do you mean by "somewhat of a budget"?

That's a very vague guideline.

What is your vidya card?

I guess I worded that stufftily, I'm just looking for middle of the road stuff for a gaming rig.

Get Nvidia 260 GTX, has more memory than 460 GTX.

Get Nvidia 260 GTX, has more memory than 460 GTX.

But the 460 GTX will last him longer.

Eh?

Well, it's good enough.
Just when I was looking through graphics cards a few days ago I saw the 460 GTX AND 260 GTX (I bought 260 GTX, 460 is gone).
Since they gave very little information on the boxes themselves, I'm only comparing what I saw.

If memory serves, 460 GTX had 790-something MB.
260 has 896MB.

Well, I'm not the best when it comes to comparing graphics cards but anything that will run VALVe games on high/highest settings will work for me (which 260 GTX seems to be capable of).

However, I have yet to see this for myself as I haven't installed it yet.

But the 460 GTX will last him longer.

I feel kind of stupid now.
Eh, I don't need the best one evar!!1oine

Just one good enough for 2-3 years. Portal 2 is my main concern.

There's more to a graphics card than VRAM.

What the forget is with people suggesting the gtx 260 all the time?

The 460 and the 260 are roughly the same price

It's just me, lulz.

It was the best Nvidia card avaidible at my local PC World store.
I can't order online right now, anyways, so I couldn't get the 480 GTX (which would've costed an extra 100 euros anyways).
