Author Topic: Audio Issues  (Read 1475 times)

k so, i got to hook up my old compy finally in my uncle's basement.
however, we've tried 2 pairs of speakers, and the Playback Devices list keeps saying "Not Plugged In"

the other 2 are ATI HDMI Output and SPDIF Interface.
Interface is the only working one, which, for some reason plays radio.
HDMI Output also says "Not Plugged In"

yes, i have a sound card. yes, the speakers green jack is plugged into the green port.
yes the speakers give static feedback, which means they're working.

pics:

the radio looking thing is the Interface

Are you Commander Tophat?

Yes he is.

Also, have you checked to make sure you have functional audio drivers?

Your sure its the right green port. Mine has 3 :o
mine has 2, one in front, and the other in back.

but i know it's the right one because in Properties of the Speakers it says "Rear" next to the green.

bump due to lack of help >:(

Make the plug is broken or something

half of the usb's on my PC don't work.

is this it?

Basically yes, but I'll make a more detailed post when I get on my computer.

Okay, so first, open Device Manager. Once there, navigate to the "Sound, video and game controllers" tree. From there, right-click one of the two nonfunctional audio devices and select "Properties" from the drop-down list. I'll use my HD audio device as an example.

When the Properties window opens, in the "General" tab, check to see if Windows says that the device is working properly. This is mainly to check if it says that it's not working properly, because even if it says the device is working properly, it may actually not be. Once you've checked that, navigate to the "Driver" tab. Find and select the button labeled "Update Driver..."

If the driver updates completely and properly, try seeing if the device is now working. If it still isn't working, click the button labeled "Roll Back Driver." If it still does not work after rolling back the driver, your only other option is to uninstall and reinstall the driver. Try all that first and let us know if it works or not.

bump.

@raeyok
it says the driver is up to date, and rollback is grayed out.
should i try reinstalling anyway?

forget
so i reinstalled it, and now "Speakers" is not showing up in the "Playback Devices" page.

I'm sorry, I completely forgot about this topic. :c

Anyway, really the only thing I can think of now is whether or not the connection between the jack on your speakers and the port on your desktop is completely functional. Try plugging your speakers into a different computer or something that can use them and see if they work there. If they do, then try plugging something like headphones or other speakers into the port on your desktop to see if it works. If both the speaker jack and the desktop port are both functional, then I'm out of options for helping you, unfortunately.
