Author Topic: So I'm still working on a game too....  (Read 1301 times)

So yeah, a while back, at least a month ago, probably more like two, I made a topic about a game I had just started to make with a video linked to the topic.

This was the old topic:
http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=126801.0

During the last week or two the video has gotten a bunch of generally negative comments from minecraft fanboys saying it's just a copy with higher res textures. To attempt to prove them wrong I posted a second video with a lot of the new work that hopefully separated it from other games.

I figured I'd make a new topic when I saw other gamedev topics again in off topic.

New Video:

Since the last topic, which I have locked, there is now an inventory system, which lets you pick up, store, and drop items, there are plants, which can be planted with using certain items (seeds), and they take a certain time to grow (different for each plant) and then can be harvested for more produce. (seeds again) There is also a new server SDL-console window which let's me add plants and items as well as see status updates from in the server.

If you guys want I'll post the actual game, but I was just wondering what you guys thought...

FIRS- Nm...
Looks...Er...

Well the multiplayer is really cool but it doesn't really show it off too well since all we know it could be LAN only. Anyways you really need to get some textures and explain to us what the hell this is suppose to be.

Other than that good luck!

It is multiplayer and is hosted on one central server, eg. a MORPG.
I could run there server on my VPS, give you a copy of the client, and we could play together in the one world together.

Also, it is a "sandbox" genre game, where you just build stuff. (Obviously there aren't any ways to get building materals atm, but once mining and such is implemented there will be)
For now you just walk around, chat, and farm etc.

I plan to add realistic terrain including water and such, then make it so you actually register accounts with passwords and usernames and have the server save your position and inventory. Then I plan on adding mining.

Sounds like Minecraft but I'll have to admit you seem to be adding your own creative twist to it so it does seem worthwhile. Anyways no real point in giving me the client since there really isn't much to do in the game yet. I will beta test though when it's in its later stages of development.

The people who have been commenting on the first video were complaining about how the look was that of Minecraft, because any game with blocks is clearly a copy of Minecraft.

As my work advances and as I begin to add in realistic terrain then it won't look a thing like Minecraft. And it will have one large server, instead of tons of small servers. Though, honestly, the game play will be similar, because well, it's a sandbox game, like Minecraft, Wurm, Second Life, and various other games.

No offense but you seem to be a tad bit ignorant. It's not the fact that it has blocks. It's the fact that... Well it has the pretty much same concept as Minecraft. Like I said you're adding your own creative twist to it so it's not a cheap knock off of Minecraft. I was just saying the concept was similar.

Speaking of which, when did MineCraft come out anyways?
As far as I know, it goes like:

Blockland, ROBLOX, Minecraft(?).

I was saying that the people who commented on my video, not you, said that it was like Minecraft because it had blocks. I realize what you are saying is different. This game doesn't, and won't ever let you add or remove large blocks of anything, the gameplay similarities will pretty much end at the fact that it's a world that you can make long lasting changes in. (and there will be farming, and mining and such, but even runescape has those things)

I believe so.

Going to bump this at video three.

It looks a lot like BlockNation
Which looks like Minecraft
But then again, it hasnt finished, so I cant wait to see what the end result is like

Looks like its going to be good.
I can beta test for you.

In order? No, roblox came first.

In order? No, roblox came first.

It did?
It was first playable in 2005...

I guess all those people saying "LOL ROBLOX COPY BLOCKLAND" put me off.

Actually nobody copied nobody. ROBLOX and Blockland are very different.
