Author Topic: Forcing 1997 DirectX 6.0 game into Windowed Mode?  (Read 4508 times)

keonesan, I've been wondering if I can get it to work. DxWnd seems to try and work, but crashes. If you can suggest specific configuration settings, maybe they'll work.

DXWnd will crash if you have any other programs open. It's quite strange. Even Google Chrome or any other web browser will crash it.

Hmm... Makes sense. I used it before, years ago, for MapleStory. All I had open besides that was MSN. I'll close Firefox and see if results vary. I'll come back here later.

Nope. Shut EVERYTHING else off I could think off... But there must be a way. This game starts looking HORRIBLE stretched from 640x480 to a 1024x768 monitor.

You'd think it'd be easier since it's so old, it probably has so much stuff that can be manipulated easily in new systems.

Rewrote the topic post. Maybe more of you will understand?

None of you know how or are you just ignoring this topic?

Maybe try different versions of DxWnd? I remember when I used it, one version crashed the game, and the other allowed it to play.

You missed one.

Well, I tried v1.034 and it was doing that closest thing. v1.020 wasn't windowing it. Could you help me find links to other versions? I've had a hard time of that.

You can always run it in a virtual machine if you've got a decent computer and a spare xp disk or something. It's a bit of a hassle but it will run absolutely everything in a window. I've had to use one to run some older games.
