Author Topic: Forcing 1997 DirectX 6.0 game into Windowed Mode?  (Read 4553 times)

You can always run it in a virtual machine if you've got a decent computer and a spare xp disk or something. It's a bit of a hassle but it will run absolutely everything in a window. I've had to use one to run some older games.

7 year old low end eMachines. AKA, can't.

-w 640 -h 480 -windowed -dxlevel 60

Tried, failed. This game wasn't built for normal windowed input.

First person to get me a working method gets 500 Zorkmids.

I know you're smart, come on. :iceCream:

Okay, I have to add, when I use DXWnd and it opens full screen (1.020), I can reduce the resolution manually and going back to the game shows in the current resolution. The problem there is it's still forcing the window to take up the whole screen with the game in the corner, and it throws the mouse coordinates off by a ton.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a88-Jgt5Grw This video of a Non-English edition of the game is playing in Windowed Mode, apparently by code. I have commented, but any idea how?

I know you guys can figure this out.

Pretty please? There must be a solution.

Maybe try Dosbox, even though it's meant for DOS, it could work?

This is strange as hell. It says it can't run the EXE. I thought this was simply that it couldn't do these games, but I went into the compatibility list and found this: http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?letter=Z

It supports a bunch of Zork games, and not just the text-based ones. Nemesis came just before Grand Inquisitor, and it was 3D as well. It's just they don't support my game... Damn. :panda:
