For some reason when I go into GIMP it makes the transparent areas black :C

Because, it happened to me a lot. I think that if you save the image and open it from your drive, it will load transparency--I'm assuming it has to do with browser issues. Same thing happened to me earlier on PDN, so I think GIMP would be similar (I used to use GIMP more frequently than PDN)
