Author Topic: Blockland Forums in game via an add-on?  (Read 3453 times)

The question is simple, though I should probably put forth some points:

1. I'm not sure if anyone would want to trust logging in to reply, but browsing alone isn't too bad.
2. It'd be a simple, probably almost text only version of the forums.
2a. No images in posts, definitely.
2b. It wouldn't have the same look and feel as these do.
3. It'd relay on the stability of the format of the forums, meaning if the forums undergo a serious change the add-on would too.

Honestly the idea seems simple enough, and with a knowledge of networking and guis as they apply to blockland and otherwise I figured I could making an add-on like this, but was looking for some opinions.

It's doable, but whether it's a good idea or not is highly questionable.

Forums ingame I'd love this

That's the point of this thread.
The actual scripting seems easier and easier as I think about it.
But I can think of tons of horrible things that could happen on release, from badspot failing it, to people accusing me of stealing passwords.

I'm a trusted member. I can personally inspect the code and release it for you.

I don't have a grudge on anyone here anyways. I don't need anyone's account.

This is a good idea.

But shouldn't this be in suggestions and requests?

Ah never mind then.

He's not asking people to make it.

He's asking if it's a good idea for HIMSELF to make.

It's not a request, I'm making it.

Allow Baddy full access to anything he asks for involving this script, and you should not run into any problems.

I thought about this a while ago. First off, it's harder than you seem to think it is. Secondly, there's no way you can match the speed of web browsers or the usability through Torque. Thirdly, So few users would use this that the effort you put into it would be essentially wasted. It's a novelty thing and it'll wear off very fast. Finally, I would move anything that dealt with user's forum passwords straight to the Fail Bin.

I figured as such.

Maybe, it seems to come over to people as a good idea though.

As I figured, I guess if this was released it'd be view only...

That's all that I would want to do, keep up and download the add-ons. After all, with one of the scripts I found, I can enable add-ons in-game.

Xfire/Steam ingame browser.
