Author Topic: I now have another reason to hate AVG.  (Read 246 times)

I can't uninstall it the easy and hard way.

The easy way (just uninstalling it like anything else) returns errors about not being able to close the "watchdog" service.
Can't do that.

Forcibly trying to end the process doesn't work. It says I don't have permission, yet I have Administrator privileges.
Can't do that.

Trying to end the service while protection is temporarily disabled doesn't work.
Can't do that.

Using PSKill does work, yet, AVG is smart enough to immediately create another watchdog service with a different PID. So PSKill does what it's supposed to do, but AVG is so fricking smart.
Can't do that.

Making a .bat file with:
Code: [Select]
@echo off
pskill 4908
pskill 5756
pskill 512
pskill 4828
pskill 2792
pskill 1448
is pretty much the same as above.
Can't do that.

I'm thinking about trying to damage one of AVG's core files in order to keep it from running on startup, and then using PSKill to terminate the watchdog service.

Anything else I should try first? I really want this gone. It's using up way too much of my resources.
