Ubuntu should automatically find your connection. If doesn't I would assume that it is a driver issue.

You should probably use the GUI instead of TRYING to use the console.

I have.

I use the console to load low graphics mode.

it's the only way.

do you even know what you need it for? or did you just say to yourself one day;
"well all the super nerds and cool internet people use it, i must catch up"

if your not to computer savvy you shouldn't even use it.
stop trying to be trendy and play with toys you know nothing about.

personally, it has so very few advantages, i wouldn't touch it.
for every awesome aspect of it, there are 20 other annoyances you have to work around.
and in the end, you are still emulating stuff to run everything you want to. agh

I do know what I need it for.

For.. About everything, without crashing all the time.

just use windows or a mac. if you're crashing all the time on any OS, you're doing it wrong.

i mean the specific advantages of it that windows dont offer. and no not "crashing less" because no computer would crash on anyone unless they are stupid and caused it. for any operating system.

you are already running into problems. and i guarantee you, there will be MANY more for you.
a real PC user can solve any new problem he comes across by himself, because that type of user has the means to figure out whats wrong and fix it.
I can tell already you are lost by some very basic issues.

then maybe i've been doin' my life wrong.. :(

BUT WHATEVER

I'll try setting up a connection now.

There is no reason to use it if you can't even open the internet. I can't imagine the trouble you'll have installing drivers and WINE.

Linux is an advanced operating system. It's not polished like consumer operating systems. You know why? Because most people are too stupid to use it or too stupid to learn it. You best uninstall it and move back to vista.

Also note that WINE is an emulator. This means that a program will run just as stuffty if not stufftier through it.

the only great reason i could ever consider using linux myself. is that i heard it was fantastic at running servers. website, game hosting, file hosting and such.

but again, its no longer a PC lol. so the operating system becomes more or less useless as that computer isnt a day to day usage.
