Author Topic: Blasphemy!  (Read 3990 times)

I'm sorry, but i feel that the Opinions stated by Many highly respected Members of the BL community are Extremely flawed. I have heard comments such as "they should take down the old master server" and others, and personally find it Painful to Look at. that would be like, when the Ps3 came out people saying "We should Destroy all the Ps2's". Its senseless. There are many people who feel that non Retail Block land is just as good as Block land Retail. Thats like saying "lets destroy museums, They represent the Past and its lessons!" its pointless, and a poor decision

This in no way Represents the Views or opinions of \AF/, the BL community, or anyone else but my own, cncwarlords. Flaming is not wanted and it would be appreciated if you stated your opinion in a calm, collected supported manner.
None of this "OMG, you are t3h Nubz0rs, BLR is better ima spread malicious rumers about you now!" that is pointless and helps no one. Pleas also speak understandably as i have attempted.

No reason to destroy all the PS2s, but I don't think we'll see many PS3 games back-ported to PS2. Same with retail and v0002.

Your opinion is understandable, But for example here is a reason to keep the Old master server up: Anyone who wants to majorly  modify BL will have to do pre-Retail block land. just one opinion. I myself would like to get BL R, so i dont think anything is wrong with it, other then the .DSO'd files however it is a necessary evil. But I still dont see a reason to get rid of it.

When I saw the 'take down old masterserver' nonsense I was like, wtf? Is he serious?

Why on Earth would you want that? Not everybody has retail yet. Personally I think Badspot has no reason to except to force people into buying Retail, which would be a selfish move, but I don't think hes like that.

That Opinion Agrees with mine i believe Neozuki. Taking down the BL masterserver would be a Unwise decision.

Reasons to force people to buy retail:

1) Make more money. Nothing wrong with this. How else will Badspot pay the bills?
2) Makes it less of a headache for support and will be less confusing for users in general.

The first reason is the most important IMO. And I have to whole-heartedly disagree with it being an "unwise" decision. I think it would be a very wise decision. I think the word you are looking for is "not fair to people who expect eveyrthing in life to stay free forever, even though it was announced that the game would be sold over two years ago". Right?

I for one agree with this man ^

Seriously, you don't see Microsoft supporting 98 anymore, and soon* they won't support XP.

*soon as in 2-4 years, but still point is valid

Even if the master server is down, the people can still connect via IP or Hamachi. If they want to play original Blockland, they WILL play original Blockland.

True, and some people still use 98 (i think)

But they won't get support, as people who don't buy retail shouldn't

It's not even about supporting old products either. v0002 is just an early beta for what we call "retail". When I first fired up my copy of retail beta, it was called v0003, since it was just the next public beta release of the same game. It would be like Microsoft supporting the old longhorn alpha versions of Vista for people who didn't feel like paying for it.

:D i see where your coming from, but i think it could be Financially wiser to keep it up in that BL is addicting, and they will want more. Its not so addicting in singleplayer and they could pass it up as just another game. BUT as a multiplayer it has the Appeal of a MMO and a building game in one. and if the player is smart they will then look into retail, and See that it is better. That would still happen if the master was taken down, just i think it would happen less often.

I don't think Badspot will be making enough to pay for the time he spent developing it. I mean seriously - if everyone on the forums bought a copy that'd only be about $56,000. Sure that is a lot better than nothing but it still isn't enough to live off of unless he can keep it coming in from other sources. Honestly if he were trying to make a living, he'd have charged a good bit more than $20. Say $30 to 40.
