Author Topic: Leaving the country.  (Read 2245 times)

Hey folks. My friend and I are having an argument on Facebook and I wanted to bounce it off you guys to see what you think. I'll boil it down to the core, attempting to be as impartial as possible.

Basically, it started when I said that if Palin was elected in 2012, I'd start to seriously consider leaving the country. He said that this was, and I quote, "immature", also that this is the reason American politics don't work. I asked why it was immature to leave a country where I disagree both with the leader and people people that placed her in power. At this point he said that if everyone thought like this, then American politics wouldn't get anywhere because everyone would be leaving when things got bad. At this point, I told him to stop blowing everything up into a grand scale, it's only me leaving and only until Palin is out of office and things are getting better. He replied basically, 'oh yeah, just leave while you wait for other people to make everything better. That's very mature'. I gave statistics about how loving huge American politics are and how little one vote changes anything. I also talked about how I'm not old enough or have enough time or influence or education to change anything significantly in the four years she'd hopefully be limited to.

That's where we are. What are your guys' thoughts on this? None of our friends have taken sides, so it's a little hard for me to ascertain if I'm being out of line. I think he's being overly idyllic and optimistic about the Democratic process and just coming out with bullstuff arguments.

If it's worth anything, both of us are Sophomores in high school. I'll be old enough in 2012 to vote in that election, which I plan on doing. If elected, Palin would be inaugurated in January of my senior year, I'd probably spend the remainder of my time in high school applying to colleges in Canada and exploring my options for leaving the U.S. for at least four years.

STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM YOUR PROBLEMS

STOP RUNNING ASSOCIATING WITH REPUBLICANS!
That would solve your problem.

If Palin got elected in 2012, I wouldn't leave the country, but I'd certainly be upset. Your friend is wrong, it's not immature. You're old enough to make your own decisions & have your own views on politics. If you must leave the country for Palin's presidency (If it does happen), then so be it. Your friend has no right to call you immature based on your political views.

But, anyway..

STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM YOUR PROBLEMS

Now, listen; do you feel comfortable giving a crazy alaskan bear fighting hockey mom the power to destroy the whole world?

I for one, don't.

I for one, don't.

I agree. If she accidentally presses the "nuke Florida" button if she gets elected, I'm seriously gonna be pissed.

There is no nuke Florid... you know what, no. Ignoring that.

OBVIOUSLY the preferable alternative to all of this is that she isn't elected. In the mean time, this isn't about whether or not you'd like Palin as a president.

I wouldn't stay in a junkyard for four years if I didn't have to, which is what I think he believes his position is. If he wants to leave, so be it.

If you come to Canada, you can live with me.

I'd be happy to take your place. c:

I heard there was a poll where about 65% said she isn't even qualified to be president
I doubt she'll be elected.
It's not like general American citizens are that stupid.

(This is coming from America.)

My girlfriend would be upset if I moved to Canada, even if it were to be to work for Ubisoft or something. :/
