A. We never really fought Russia, ever. Even in WW2.
B. There was no fighting ever done in the Cold War, which it is WHY it's called the cold war.
C. The Russians didn't back down, their country TANKED. The collapse of the Soviet Union caused the end of the "war".
D. No they didn't. "Comrade" is a US stereotype of Russian soldiers, like calling German soldiers krauts.
