Author Topic: God is spelled with a capital letter?  (Read 2307 times)

About a week ago, we had a history test.
When we got it back, I saw that the teacher corrected god into God. Why, I asked. I looked in the dictionary and god isn't spelled with a capital letter. Then she said that god is his name. And, of course, names are spelled with capital letters >:3
At least it didn't decrease my grade.

DiscuSSSS.

Its obvious he's religious

Its obvious he's religious
Or she's always thought of it to be spelt as God.
I consider it a name, so I spell it with a capital.

Because "God" is a Proper Noun as well as it is an interjection or a verb. It refers to the name of the being. Example:
I am God. I am David. I am Steven.
I saw a god last night. His name was Samuel L Jackson.

God's name isn't god. If I were to be named after my career I'd be called Game Designer or Fireman.

God's name is Jehovah in Christian terms.

:I'm spelling god capital because it's the beginning of a sentence.

Edit: Correct your teacher for his proper name. And I'm an Atheist so don't think I'm religious by saying correct his name as if I care.

And doesn't this flaw many Christians by saying his name in vein? Because god's name isn't god?

You don't have to be religious to acknowledge that the Judeo-Christian god is spelled "God".

God's name is, in-fact, "God" in Christianity and Catholicism (It's "Allah" in Islam but then again that translates directly to "God" anyway). Jehova is ONE OF the names of God (recognized by Jehova's Witnesses), but most religions recognize that saying his proper name is offensive. There are hundreds of names for the same god so it's both ease-of-use and religiously proper to refer to it as "God".

That's how it is in the Bible, bro.
Not that I've ever read the Bible, but still.

Pronouns referring to "God" are usually capitalized.

Like"Him"
